RAINFALL | TEMPERATURE

Latrobe City has a Mediterranean style climate with maximum temperatures and minimum rainfall in summer. The primary influence on climate in the region is the easterly movement of both high and low pressures systems, and the southerly movement of low-pressure systems off the east coast of southern Australia.

The climate in Latrobe City varies with elevation, topography and distance from the coastline and the prevailing south-westerly air stream. Rainfall is considerably greater in southern areas of the municipality with increased seasonality. Temperatures are fairly uniform across Latrobe City although variation is also seen between the northern and southern areas. Winters are generally cold and wet while summers are mild and dry. Drought conditions are often experienced from October to April. Variations in climate have resulted in significant differences in flora, fauna and land use between northern and southern areas of the municipality.

RAINFALL

Rainfall levels vary between the north and south of the municipality. Latrobe Regional Airport has an average annual rainfall of 788mm while Olsen's Bridge in the south of the municipality has an average annual rainfall of 1390mm.
