Latrobe City is the educational centre for Gippsland providing some of the best educational facilities in regional Australia. Currently in Latrobe City, there are 22 preschools, 22 preschools, 25 state primary schools, 4 state secondary schools and 2 private schools (primary and early secondary).

A feature facility in Latrobe City is the Gippsland Education Precinct that offers Australia's first fully integrated secondary, vocational and tertiary educational complex all on the one campus. 

Monash University also has a large campus located in Latrobe City which provides tertiary education to many local, interstate and international students. Central Gippsland Institute of TAFE, based in Latrobe City, also provides educational services to the broader Gippsland region.

EDUCATION CHARACTERISTICS

Information gathered from the 2001 Census indicated that over 70% of Latrobe City residents aged over 15 had at least reached Year 10 education level.

Approximately 34% of Latrobe City residents have a non-school qualification of some form. OVer 6% of residents holdi a Bachelor degree or higher level qualification.

ENROLMENTS

The total level of primary school enrolments in Latrobe City has declined slightly over the past few years, although non-government secondary school enrolments in the muncipality have increased since 2003.
