Latrobe 2021: The vision for Latrobe Valley

Latrobe 2021 is the long-term vision for development of the Latrobe Valley community. A series of strategic objectives and actions have been outlined to achieve the vision of a vibrant region, a caring and enterprising community, a harmonious community, and a sustainable, safe, secure region.

Latrobe 2021 is a joint vision for Council and the community, developed through in-depth consultation with the community and other stakeholders. As such, the challenge in moving forward is to identify what we, as individuals and a community, can do to make this vision a reality.

In developing services and programs for the community, Latrobe City has identified four strategic objectives: Sustainability, Liveability, Governance and Community Capacity Building. A fifth internal objective is Organisational Excellence which focuses on Latrobe City Council's ability to deliver on the four strategic objectives.

Council has developed an Integrated Planning Framework to ensure that all Council actions, policies and strategies work towards achieving the Latrobe 2021 Vision. Our Integrated Planning Framework comprises a series of corporate and strategic planning tools to implement the vision. This framework includes the Latrobe 2021 Strategy, the four year Latrobe City Council Plan which is revised annually, the Latrobe 2021 Annual Report Card, and the Latrobe City Annual Report.

Latrobe 2021 is a strategic document that outlines a series of strategic objectives which are broken down into community outcomes. Latrobe 2021 provides key directions for Council activities including programs, services and resource allocations. This is designed to assist the economic and social development of Latrobe City, as well as environmental initiatives taking into account the need to balance Council’s ongoing commitments together with new priorities that will shape the future of our community.

This strategy was last revised in May 2006.

This document has been developed in accordance with the requirements of Section 125 of the Local Government Act 1989, which specifies that all Victorian local government authorities need to revise their Council Plan annually.

Latrobe 2021 - Report Card 2006

Latrobe 2021 Report Card

The Latrobe 2021 Annual Report Card is designed to show both the Council and the Latrobe City community how well we are progressing toward our long-term strategic vision – Latrobe 2021. The Report Card provides an update of our achievements over the past twelve months against the strategic objectives and strategies identified in the 2005-2009 Council Plan. This is a joint vision for Council and the community that provides a clear direction for the development of our Latrobe Valley community.

The 2006 Report Card is informed by an analysis of data collected in 2005 and 2006. This latest version also includes case studies from various community organisations demonstrating how the Latrobe City community is contributing to the achievement of our joint Latrobe 2021 vision. A further report on progress made toward the Latrobe 2021 vision will be available in early 2008.
